Meer dan in Nederland is in het Midden-Oosten het korte verhaal een volwaardig literair genre. Naast poëzie, dat vooral gebruikt wordt om grote gevoelens uit te drukken, is het korte verhaal geschikt om grote en kleine gebeurtenissen uit het dagelijks leven te vertellen. Denk aan avonturen, anekdotes, liefdesgeschiedenissen, ruzies en andere drama’s. Geïnspireerd door de verhalen uit 1001 Nacht en de avonturen van Ibn Battuta leggen veel schrijvers uit het Arabisch taalgebied zich toe op het korte verhaal. Via VerhalenPost komt een selectie uit deze vertelkunst beschikbaar voor Nederlandse lezers.

VerhalenPost: Online Short Story Service with Stories from the Middle East
More so than in the Netherlands, the short story is an established literary genre in the Middle East. Alongside poetry, which is primarily used to express profound emotions, the short story lends itself to telling about both major and minor events in everyday life. These include adventures, anecdotes, love stories, disputes, and other dramas. Inspired by the stories of One Thousand and One Nights and the adventures of Ibn Battuta, many writers from the Arabic-speaking world specialize in short stories. Through VerhalenPost, a selection of this storytelling tradition is made available to Dutch readers.
