Symposium: Religieus Erfgoed in de Diaspora – 27 maart in Utrecht

Op 27 maart vindt in Museum Catharijneconvent een uniek symposium plaats over de manier waarop Oosterse en Oriëntaalse christelijke tradities een nieuwe plek vinden in Nederland. Het evenement wordt georganiseerd door het Platform Oosters Christendom in samenwerking met het museum.

De afgelopen jaren is het aantal oosters-christelijke gelovigen in Nederland toegenomen door migratie vanuit regio’s waar deze tradities hun oorsprong vinden. Hierdoor zijn nieuwe kerkgemeenschappen ontstaan, terwijl andere zich hebben aangesloten bij bestaande gemeenten. In de loop der tijd hebben deze gemeenschappen hun plek gevonden binnen de Nederlandse samenleving, waarbij zij hun tradities en rituelen vaak behouden en tegelijkertijd aanpassen aan hun nieuwe culturele context.

Het symposium Religieus Erfgoed in de Diaspora brengt wetenschappers, geestelijken en culturele professionals samen voor een dag van dialoog, kennisuitwisseling en ontmoeting.

Symposium: Religious Heritage in the Diaspora – 27 March in Utrecht

On 27 March, a unique symposium will take place in Museum Catharijneconvent, exploring how Eastern and Oriental Christian traditions find a new home in the Netherlands. The event is organised by the Platform Oosters Christendom in collaboration with the museum.

In recent years, the number of Eastern Christian believers in the Netherlands has grown due to migration from regions where these traditions originate. As a result, new church communities have emerged, while others have joined already existing congregations. Over time, these communities have found their place within Dutch society, often maintaining their traditions and rituals while also adapting to their new cultural context.

The symposium Religious Heritage in the Diaspora brings together scholars, clergy, and cultural practitioners for a day of dialogue, learning, and exchange.
